943 opening this spring on Ninth Street
Pascual Cancelliere is looking to "spring" to open 943 at 943 S. Ninth Street (between Christian and Carpenter). Cancelliere, who ran Butcher's Caf with his father, John, before selling it to Todd Bergman (who's now at New Wave Caf), has been out of the Philly scene since his dad passed away in 2005. He's given the spot a culture-non-specific name due to the fact that the menu will feature influence from both of Cancelliere's parents. "That's the whole thing," he says. "I don't want it to be an Argentine restaurant, and I don't want it to be an Italian restaurant." Instead, it'll be both Italian (pasta, short ribs) and Argentine (empanadas, various cuts of meat served with housemade chimichurri sauce). The restaurant will seat about 50 people. Saturday and Sunday will boast live jazz brunches. great9124 Posted 2009-01-07 05:15:40
