A big thumbs up for Circles from Phyllis Stein-Novack

POSTED: Thursday, February 7, 2013, 1:37 PM

It took South Philly Review restaurant critic Phyllis Stein-Novack and dining companion/husband Edward a second to figure out the dining situation at the South Philly outpost of Circles (1514 Tasker St.) but once they settled in at the cafe au lait colored dining room, their meal was pretty much perfect.

The fact that food is prepared across the street and carried over on plastic trays could have easily resulted in temperature issues but according to PSN "it was a miracle that the food remained nice and hot."

Thai rolls were crispy treats served with a plum sauce whose sweetness was offset by chopped peanuts. Peppery calamari was not-at-all chewy and splendidly seasoned. Crab and pork dumplings intrigued with a French-inspired dipping sauce. A chicken and duck special dazzled and even the brown rice served with it warranted compliments.

A combination of stellar service and Thai dishes executed with French technique were all contributing factors to PSN awarding Circles an almost perfect three and a half tips of the toque.
