Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Thursday, January 10, 2013, 3:01 PM

A special prix fixe to usher in 2013, free food at Davio’s, and how to support a new business coming to E. Passyunk Ave, all on today’s Afternoon Snacks!

To celebrate another year, London Grill (2301 Fairmount Ave.) is cooking up a special “customer appreciation” prix fixe for the entire month of January. The deal is one special three-course menu, available for lunch, dinner, or any time the kitchen’s open, for just $20.13 (GET IT?). The offering will change each day, but by way of example, a recent menu featured cauliflower-saffron bisque, seared scallops with wild sturgeon caviar, and eggnog tiramisu.

Yesterday we told you about a deal on empanadas based on how weirdly warm it’s been, so of course today we’ve got news on a deal based on how cold January is, because that’s the world we now live in. But whenever this weird warm snap breaks, keep Davio’s (111 S 17th St.) in mind—because any weekday this winter when it drops below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, you can drop by their bar for a free order of cheesesteak spring rolls (on cold Saturdays and Sundays, you’re on your own). Just pull up the weather forecast on your phone to show to the bartender as proof of the piddling daily high, and you’re set. You can even come back on the next freezing-cold day and do it all over again.

We love the cute lunchbags and kitchen items at Girls Can Tell (1725 S. 12th St.) featuring illustrations by owner Sara Selepouchin, and now outlets like Passyunk Post and Racked are reporting that they’re outgrowing their original space and planning to open Occasionette on E. Passyunk. Wanna help your neighbors out? They’re raising funds right over here on Lucky Ant if you’ve got a few bucks to kick in. (If you’ve got more than a few bucks: consider chipping in $400 for the awesome thank you gift of a custom-designed print!)

Just to clarify, Sara is opening Occasionette as a second business, not outgrowing her current location. so Girls Can Tell will still be open too. http://www.passyunkpost.com/2013/01/occasionette-new-gift-shop-planned-for.html

D'oh! To clarify our clarification, Girls Can Tell is closing its current location but will be moving to the back half of the new store, so the two shops will coexist under one roof.
