Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Monday, January 14, 2013, 4:31 PM

A new cheese shop, a beef & beer to look forward to, and humorous, tangentially food-related links from Girls to Honey Boo Boo: all on today's Afternoon Snacks!

Mike Klein announced today that hotly anticipated Jersey import, Valley Shepherd Creamery, is set to start doing business at the Reading Terminal Market in a mere two days (that's Wed., Jan. 16). Not that the RTM doesn't have plenty of great cheese options already, but really, there's always plenty of room for fresh-pulled mozzarella and duck fat grilled cheese sandwiches, right? (The Insider's got the full menu, too!)

Save the Date: we'll have more details for you along shortly, but for now, make a note that you're busy on the evening of Sun., Jan 27. That's the night of the 4th Annual Beef & Beer at SPTR (1509 Mifflin St.), so on second thought: vegetarians, you can keep your schedule open that night if you like. (If you're ready to buy tickets, call or stop by the Taproom.)

OK, OK, so it's not totally food-related, but it's newsworthy to us: last night marked the beginning of a new season of HBO hit (and Golden Globe winner!) Girls, which means a whole new season of hilarious Eddie Huang-penned recaps. Even if you're a Girls hater, these write-ups have always been worth the read. And Huang is a chef. So there. (We probably don't have to say this, but yes, that recap of the show will spoil the show for you if you haven't watched it yet.)

Finally, at the risk of sounding smug, we've been working very hard to keep from finding out too much about what "Honey Boo Boo" is—but those of you who are better acquainted might get a kick out of this Gawker post about some of the cooking that went down on last night's (very oddly timed) Thanksgiving Special.
