Afternoon Snacks

On today’s Afternoon Snacks, a tale of two tastings—one featuring foie gras in meatball form, the other featuring foie gras in, well, every form. And both are totally affordable!

This week’s tasting menu at Matyson (37 S. 19th St.) is titled “Eat Like a Chef,” but we think the operative phrase is really “bacon and onion crust, shaved egg yolk.” Like, does it even matter what the thing is that's being crusted after you hear that? In this case, yes, it does matter! Because it’s MARROW! BACON AND ONION CRUST. SHAVED EGG YOLK. IF YOU WANT US TO STOP YELLING AT YOU, YOU SHOULD PROBABLY JUST GO.

Oh, and NBD, but the menu also includes the word “fixins.” So.

Monday, January 14- Thursday, January 16
"Eat Like A Chef"

Raw Scallop
Uni sauce, grapefruit, Szechwan peppercorn

Bone Marrow
Bacon & onion crust, shaved egg yolk

Duck Pho
Foie gras meatballs, turnip, fixins

BBQ Pig Tails
Cucumber, charred scallion & herb salad

Funnel Cake
Coffee, maple

$45 Prix fixe does not include tax, beverage, or gratuity

Meanwhile, over at Meritage (500 S. 20th St.), chef Anne Coll is putting on a full-on foie gras assault starting tomorrow. For the tiny little pricetag of $39, you get 4 courses (plus an amuse) with foie gras on every single plate (yes, including dessert, which sounds killer). But it’s only available this Wednesday through Friday, so get a move on.

First
Foie gras cappuccino, chestnut and apple fritter

Second

Third
