Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Tuesday, January 22, 2013, 4:30 PM

New food trucks, expanding bars, and one very healthy recipe to add to your snack repertoire.

Food truck hounds, get ready for a great new one. The Cow and the Curd has made a few appearances in the area so far, but their first event in the city is this Saturday, Jan. 26. On the menu: deep-fried cheese curds and various dipping sauces to go with. These are, of course, the same squeaky cheddar cheese curds you may already know and love from various appearances atop poutine—but here they get the Midwest fair food treatment. Get a taste at the Food Truck and Beer Bash at Bottle Bar East (1308 Frankford Ave.) this Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. (You'll also see Lil' Dan's, Just Jackie's, and the Sweetbox truck there.)

NakedPhilly reported today that Misconduct Tavern (1511 Locust St.) is about to get a whole lot roomier: they're expanding into the lot next door. Once renovations are complete, the bar will have doubled in size.

Courtesy of Whole Foods and apropos of nothing, here's a very healthful recipe for a lemony ricotta-kale dip. Why is this noteworthy? Because we totally want to eat it and we thought you might, too! (For a vegan version, we're thinking blended tofu would work, though you might want to up the nutritional yeast and other seasonings. On the other hand, if you're an omnivore who doesn't keep nutritional yeast on hand, swap in grated parmigiano or pecorino for the yeast.)
