Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Wednesday, January 23, 2013, 4:32 PM

Even better pie deals, drinking while dieting, and a little something for you commentroversy hounds, all on today's Afternoon Snacks!

Heads up: The professional smartypantses at Magpie (1622 South St.) have taken their Winter Warmer Wednesday deal (we just told you about this last week) and extended it into A Bunch of Days When You Can Just Eat a Bunch of Pie for Not a Bunch of Money. They didn't come up with a name quite as catchy as that one, but we forgive them—they're not writers, after all, like us. But the deal (a full meal of pie—one savory selection, one sweet selection, and your choice of coffee or tea—for $14) is now available through Friday this week, and will be on again from Jan. 29 through Feb. 1. Why? Because it's Restaurant Week and people are looking for deals, and also because we could use all the warming we can get right now.

We'll admit this falls under the category of things we don't happen to fret over much—whiskey, neat will generally suffice, thanks, and our solution to dealing with the calories in beer is just not to think about them. But if you're keeping an eye on your calorie intake and need some help keeping up, this piece from Jen Killius at Drink Philly takes a pretty thorough look at how to drink while dieting.

So, today The Insider is reporting that a new Cheesecake Factory is in the cards at 15th and Walnut. Why is this buried in Snacks, you ask? Because this is not really about the Cheesecake Factory, it's just to alert any of you who are bored that, in just a few hours, the post has acquired four pages of back-and-forth between people who are already seething and maybe possibly already plotting arson and people who think this will be the best food thing that ever happened to our city. Enjoy!
