Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Friday, January 25, 2013, 2:41 PM

On today's Afternoon Snakcks, we've got a tribute to Spodee, free Left Hand Brewing Co. sampling tonight, and breaking ice cream sundae news!

If you can find your way out to the far reaches of Chester County tonight, Muse (306 Market St., Oxford) is doing a special all-Spodee dinner tonight—they're cooking with the hooch and pairing Spodee cocktails to each course. Look forward to Spodee gastriques, Spodee-braised shortribs, berry-Spodee cobbler and more. The dinner is $55 including pairings, and while there are still seats left, you'll probably want to call ahead before trekking out there.

First course
Pan-seared sea scallops
Spodee gastrique, local field greens, citrus vinaigrette, frizzled parsnips
-or-
Spodee-braised short rib
Jalapeno cornbread, Spodee demi, cabbage watermelon radish slaw, apple cider vinaigrette

Second course
4 oz. petite filet
PA-raised beef tenderloin, scalloped Yukon gold potatoes, caramelized cippolini onion, spodee demi, grilled asparagus, sweet potato crisps
-or-
Pan-seared Jail Island salmon
Asian farro, lemongrass, cippollini chives, braised Chinese celery, edamame, Spodee chili sauce

Dessert
Goat cheeses cheesecake
Gingersnap crust, blackberry-Spodee sauce
-or-
Mixed berry-Spodee cobbler

Tonight's free tasting event at Brew (1900 S. 15th St.) will feature suds from MT fave Left Hand Brewing Co. Drop by from 5 to 7 p.m. to sample their Polestar pilsner, 400LB Monkey IPA, Nitro Milk Stout, Fade to Black, and Wake Up Dead stout. No, really—drop by.

Last but not least, check out what Rising Star Sara May just posted: a new winter sundae by the name of Winter Rose for Franklin Fountain (116 Market St.), though it sounds like it's not on the menu just yet. "Red wine velvet cake, hot fudge, buttered almond ice cream, champagne meringues"? Um, yes please. And it's awfully pretty, too! Keep an eye out, ice cream fiends. (UPDATE! Per May, the Winter Rose will be available starting Fri., Feb 1.)
