Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Friday, January 4, 2013, 4:20 PM

On today's Afternoon Snacks, brunch and Sunday supper menus to help you plan out your weekend.

Starting this month, Russet (1521 Spruce St.) is giving a little adjustment to their (already excellent) brunch. Hours remain 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays, but will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sundays to provide a little more wiggle room for anyone who rides the snooze button a little too hard. (P.S., Russet’s a BYOB, but they’ve got bloody mary mix if you’ve got the vodka.) Menus change each week, but here’s the current selection:

Sweet potato sformato
mushroom duxelle, duck prosciutto

Puntarella stretta salad
pickled bull's blood beet, ricotta

Native chestnut omelet
ricotta, apple mostarda

Duck confit croque madame
sunny side up egg, brioche

Eggs en cocotte
boudin noir, brussel sprouts, potatoes cooked in ash, salsa verde

Gingerbread pancakes
roasted pears, cinnamon whipped cream

Sides:
pumpkin-raisin-pecan muffin
bacon
cheesy grits
organic half grapefruit
brioche toast

And since we’re on the topic of menus that are making us super-hungry but are unfairly only available on weekends, we might as well talk about what Matyson (37 South 19th St.) has in store for us this Sun., Jan 6. While the menu changes each week, the theme for every Sunday supper in January is duck. Heaps of delicious duck. Our only complaint is that dessert doesn’t seem to contain any duck at all, but then maybe we’re quibbling (and we wouldn’t put it past chef Ben Puchowitz to slip a little duck fat in there, anyway).

Here’s this week’s menu:

Duck Matzo Ball Soup
Egg noodles, turnip, dill

Duck & Foie Gras Sausage
Cherry mustard, apple celery root slaw

Chile Rubbed Duck Breast
Sweet potatoes, collards, coffee maple

Chocolate Hazelnut Tart
Brown sugar ice cream, caramelized bananas

$35 Prix Fixe does not include tax, beverage or gratuity
