Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Monday, October 1, 2012, 4:00 PM

Tie a string around your finger and save some dates, with today’s Afternoon Snacks!

Unless you live under a whole pile of rocks, you aren’t likely to forget that the new Center City location of Federal Donuts (1632 Sansom St.) is opening this Wednesday, Oct. 3rd at 7 a.m. sharp. Thanks to the soft open/press tastings today, Twitter and Instagram are awash with mesmerizing photos of dill pickle-glazed chicken and strawberry-fennel donuts, and we are all hungrier for it.

Also opening this week is the Hotel Monaco (437 Chestnut St.)—and along with it both the Red Owl Tavern and Stratus, the rooftop bar we stole a glimpse of for you last week. Thursday, Oct. 4th is the go-live date for the whole swank shebang.

If the hotel lounge scene is a bit too too for your tastes, you might prefer to swing by Chinatown around 10th and Race on Thursday, where the Food Trusts’s Night Market will be hosting its last street food festival of the year. The food truck expo also closed out its 2011 season in Chinatown, but as big as that night was, the offerings have only grown since then. First-timers at the Market include the Street Food Philly truck and the trippy Birds of Paradise Mobile.
