Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Tuesday, October 16, 2012, 4:25 PM

On today's Afternoon Snacks, we've got free events hosted by Hendrick's, East Passyunk's annual Halloween pub crawl, and London Grill's Pumpkin Fest tomorrow night (start carving now)!

If it’s free, and it’s booze, then it’s news to us: Hendrick’s Gin is hosting 3 days of events starting tonight, and all they ask of you is that you RSVP. Called Voyages into the Unusual, the event is being staged in five different cities throughout the year (it’s already gone down in Houston, SF, and Chicago, and will wrap up in NYC over Halloween), and our turn comes tonight through Thursday at Trust (249 Arch St.). Tonight they’re hosting cocktail classes at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m., which you can RSVP for here, with sampling including a signature “traveling punch” (a new one for each city; you can see Houston’s here). Tomorrow and Thursday nights, education goes out the window in favor of parties that promise the, well, “unusual.” …And also gin.

We hinted at it earlier, but here are the vitals on this year’s East P’yunk Witch Craft Beer Crawl coming up on Wednesday, October 24. The crawl pushes off at 5:30 p.m., with spooooky admission costing $6.66. You can buy tickets in advance here or at pre-crawl registration at The Bottle Shop, and the fee gets you a silly hat, access to $3 beers, and a stamp card that you can fill out to enter the end-of-night raffle. With 12 spots participating in the 4-hour event, we think they’ll understand if you don’t hit them all, but you only really need to visit 3 to fill out the card. But seriously, good luck choosing and limiting yourself to three of these places: Birra, The Bottle Shop, Cantina Los Caballitos, Le Virtu, Lucky 13, Noir, Paradiso, POPE, Ray's Happy Birthday Bar, South Philly Bar & Grill, Stateside, and Stogie Joe's.

Hopefully you’re not pumpkined out yet, because the London Grill (2301 Fairmount Ave.) has a Pumpkin Fest tomorrow night (Wednesday, October 17) that sounds really fun. They’ve got a pumpkin firkin of Dogfish Head Punkin Ale, plus a few other goodies on tap, including Dogfish 75 Minute and Russian River Supplication. And to bring in an element of wholesome fun and competition, they’re including a pumpkin carving contest in the festivities. Bring your entry in no later than 7 p.m. for judging at 8—the winner gets a gift basket full of “rare and special” beers. But even if your pumpkin isn’t gold medal material, you get a free beer just for entering. The party starts at 7 p.m. and goes all night; after 11 p.m., you’ll get $1 off every beer.
