Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Wednesday, November 21, 2012, 3:47 PM

On today's edition of Afternoon Snacks, watch a Vetri fam member persevere through all kinds of silliness to truss up a gorgeous turducken, mark your calendar for a toasty welcome to December, and read some wise words to head into Thanksgiving with both feet on the ground.

Does the dude in this video (making the turducken you see above) look familiar? Of course he does. He's Amis chef Brad Spence! You may remember him from such online instructional videos as: this one, and this other one, and some other ones. This time he's flying solo (watch your back, Michaud), playing the straight man to a bunch of wonderful nonsense. Nicely done, Thrillist!

A cozy save-the-date for December 1: It's the fireplace-lighting party at Devil's Den (1148 S. 11th St.). They do this every year, and if you can't understand why an honest-to-god wood-burning fireplace is a thing to build a party around, well, we just don't know about you. Starting at 1 p.m., cuddle up with a smoke- and wood-themed taplist that includes Bruery White Oak, Lost Abbey Barrel-aged Deliverance and Brandy Barrel-aged Angel’s Share, Nebraska Brewing Co. Barrel-aged Hop God, and Bourbon Barrel Aged Brew Works Devious.

And as we start thinking about heading out of the office to get started on our own cooking, one final Thanksgiving dinner note: To avoid the annual holiday ritual of trend-chasing craziness that Regina Schrambling takes issue with here (in a treatment that Gawker's Drew Magary hilariously loses his head over), a classic turkey treatment from Michael Ruhlman should do nicely to re-ground you.
