Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Friday, November 30, 2012, 2:49 PM

Today on Afternoon Snacks, we've got free tots, first shots fired in the seasonal panettone wars, and a sale on gift cards from some of your favorite Philly spots!

While there are lots of places you can go to donate to Toys for Tots this holiday season, Barclay Prime (237 S. 18th St.) has distinguished themselves with a “Toys for Tots for Tots” promo. Now through Wed., Dec. 14, when you drop off a new, unwrapped toy at the Starr steakhouse, they’ll give you a certificate for a free order of their extra-schmancy tater tots.

Well, it’s finally that time of year: panettone time! Check out versions from Wild Flour bakery (8701 Torresdale Ave., products also available at some farmers’ markets or via special order) and Metropolitan Bakery (various locations). (Marc Vetri shared the fruits of a long labor to perfect his own version a while ago, too!)

Monday, Dec. 3 is the date for the annual holiday gift certificate sale at Safran/Turney joints Barbuzzo, Jamonera, and Lolita. For every $100 in gift cards you buy, you get a $20 bonus gift card. While a meal at any of these spots does make a great gift, this is also a great time for you to treat yourself. Commit to the meal in advance and you get an extra $20 to spend—not a bad deal if you ask us. The sale is online only at weheartphilly.com, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.
