Afternoon Snacks

Hot dogs, food politics, and beer sampling x2, on today's Afternoon Snacks!

We just wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the November special "Pilgrim Harvest" dog (above) at the Hot Diggity (630 South St.), a dog topped with roasted veggies, apple-Brussels sprout slaw, orange-cranberry mostarda, and fried onions, all on a sage butter-toasted bun. They've also got a new pumpkin soup on special, which should pair perfectly. And because one can never have too many seasonal hot dogs in their life, don't forget about competitor Underdogs' (132 S. 17th St. and 1205 S. 9th St.) Tryp dog, which tops a smoked turkey sausage with cranberry sauce, gravy, and stuffing.

Remember that talk with Marion Nestle we told you about a while back, at the Academy of Natural Sciences? There are still some tickets available—for a few more minutes, anyway. Get on it!

We briefly mentioned here and there that there was some free Allagash sampling (including tastes of White, Triple, Black, Dubbel, Hugh Malone, and Fluxus '12) going down tonight at Brew (1900 S. 15th St.). That's from 5 to 7 p.m. with Allagash's Suzy Woods, who will be headed across the street after the sampling to co-host tonight's pig dinner at SPTR.

But in other sampling news, the NoLibs Foodery (837 N. 2nd St.) is sampling some brews from Stoudt's tonight from 6 to 8 p.m., including their new anniversary ale, Amber 25.
