Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Thursday, February 21, 2013, 4:24 PM

An industrycentric art show, Oscar cocktails, and ways to accidentally spend way too much money this weekend, on today's Afternoon Snacks!

Coming up at Metropolitan Gallery 250 (250 S. 18th St.): The Sidework Series, which will open on April 15th and feature the work of people in the restaurant industry. Sounds awesome, but why are we telling you this now? Because they just put out the details for their open call for submissions—you can check out how to get involved right here.

In Oscar news: hey, the Oscars are this weekend. Who knew? The folks at Davio's (111 S. 17th St.), apparently, who've come up with a trio of cocktails (priced at $13 apiece) to honor three nominees in the Best Actor category. The cocktails will only be available on Sun., Feb. 24 from 5 to 10 p.m. because, well, that's roughly when the Oscars are on. Here are the specials:

The Daniel Day Lewis
mint leaves, pulverized sugar, cognac, fresh berries, crushed ice, sliced orange

The Hugh Jackman
Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey, dry vermouth, sweet vermouth, bitters, lemon twist

The De Niro
prosecco, Aperol orange liqueur, seltzer, sliced orange

And in other Oscar news: City Paper's own Carolyn Wyman is rounding up movies filmed in Reading Terminal including Nic Cage classic National Treasure and the ever awesome Eddie Murphy Philly jam, Trading Places. Check out the full article here.

Also this weekend: Three Potato Four (376 Shurs Ln., Manayunk) is having their annual Outpost event, which brings together a handful of retailers (including Trove General and Peg & Awl), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Say Cheese Philly and the Rival Bros. trucks will also be on hand to keep you fed.
