Afternoon Snacks

Last call to help fund the Hot Diggity truck, talking food tv and the wide world of pig parts with Chris Cosentino, a meatless dinner idea from Abruzzo, and a wine pairing event this Thursday featuring Shane Candies, all on today's Afternoon Snacks!

People, if you want a Hot Diggity food truck, get on it: there's just one day left in their Lucky Ant fundraising campaign. Thank you gifts range from a free dog-and-soda combo all the way up to free hot dogs for a year, though our favorite is the $500-level opportunity to create and name your own special dog (you'll also get to eat your namesake dog for free for a month).

Here's a great interview from The New Potato with chef Chris Cosentino. He mostly talks about how awful most food tv is (including many of his own appearances—remember Time Machine Chefs?), but also goes into his favorite food cities, our fucked-up attitudes toward the meat we consume, and his recent trip to Japan, where he ate pig parts that he even he hadn't sampled previously.

Thanks to a retweet from chef Joe Cicala, here's a recipe for pallotte cac'e ove, the bread, egg and cheese croquettes you may have sampled at Le Virtù.

There are plenty of chocolate-and-wine pairing events in the lead-up to Valentine's Day, but one that caught our eye was this one at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7 at the wine bar at Ristorante Panorama (Front and Market Sts., at the Penn's View Hotel). It features chocolates from Shane Candies, and while pairing wine with plain old dark chocolate isn't so tough, aren't you kind of curious as to what wine goes with a mint buttercream center? $35 will get you a lesson in that, along with 6 other pairings—you can buy tickets and see the planned menu here.
