Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Thursday, February 7, 2013, 3:14 PM

A Valentine from the good people at Nodding Head Brewery, new ways with broccoli rabe, and a chili and winter ale competition, all on today's Afternoon Snacks!

This Saturday, gear up for Valentine's Day by enjoying a "liquid love letter" from Nodding Head (1516 Sansom St., 2nd fl.)—they'll be pouring Cherry Doc, Chocolate Stout, Floral Tripel, Kung Fu Phunk, and George's Fault (i.e., "somebody to take the blame when it all goes awry"). The selection's on tap Sat., Feb. 9, and it's pay as you go.

Not that topping off a roast pork sandwich isn't noble enough, but in case you'd like some other ways to use broccoli rabe, Saveur's got a bunch of ideas for you. (Ahem: also on that list, the recipe for Park Avenue Winter's notorious broccoli and Cheetos.)

We told you about this pre-deadline-to-enter, but it's been a while, so to refresh your memory—this weekend is Philly HomeBrew Club's Winter's Warmers competition! It's a tandem chili cookoff and homebrewed winter ale tasteoff, and you can stop by and partake for $15. Drop by the Crane Arts Building (1400 N. American St.) between noon and 6 p.m. on Sun., Feb. 10.
