Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Tuesday, March 12, 2013, 3:47 PM

March specials of all stripes (i.e., Irish, "Irish," and not having anything to do with the Irish), shocking Dunkin' revelations, and a sort of trompe l'oeuil, all on today's Afternoon Snacks!

Yikes, is March really almost half-over already? Yes, it really is. So here—just a little late—are your Jake’s Sandwich Board (122 S. 12th St.) specials for the month of March: the self-explanatory PB&J shake, and the less obvious “Megillah” sandwich: that’s a combo of bacon and brisket with sriracha ketchup and sharp provolone.

Of course, mid-March means St. Patrick’s Day, and St. Patrick’s Day means that Irish potatoes are suddenly unavoidable. Add Metropolitan Café (264 S. 19th St.) to the fray of shops offering the cream cheese-based confection. But for us, the real reason we’re willing to jump on the St. Paddy’s bandwagon is soda bread—and lucikily, Metro Bakery’s doing an awesome-looking one of those, too.

We nearly spit coffee all over our screen when we got to the part in this Saveur Q&A that says one new donut from Dunkin’ took four years to develop. FOUR YEARS. Head over there to read the whole thing for yourself.

Pulled from the same file—i.e., Things That Made Us Do a Spit-take—is the fact that these freakin’ gorgeous Parisian restaurateurs (thanks, Vogue) are not even French. But they certainly look the part, right?
