Irish fries to sop up this weekend's alcohol intake, another Friday fish sandwich, and some free cocktail education, on today's Afternoon Snacks!

Because it wouldn't be St. Patrick's Day without some spuds: Shake Shack (2000 Sansom St.) has a fry special dubbed When Irish Fries Are Smiling (no, really) available now through Sun., Mar. 17. This time around, their familiar crinkle-cuts are topped with horseradish cream, scallions and bacon for $4.

In case you haven't noticed by now, we love this time of year when everyone goes fried fish crazy on Fridays. But it only lasts a little longer, so make it count: our latest find is Paesano's (152 W. Girard Ave. and 1017 S. 9th St.) Friday fish fry special, which is a pretty classic take with crispy yellow fin sole, sharp provolone, caper mayo, a little hot sauce, lettuce, tomato and onion.

So, if you're a novice cocktail enthusiast, we have to suggest that you read Michael Ruhlman's blog—at least on Fridays, when he features a different classic cocktail each week. The entries are thorough, but then there's also this weird phenomenon over at his blog: the comments there are actually full of useful information from thoughtful people! So read those, too, and you'll be an expert in no time. This week: the Lillet-dependent Vesper.
