Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Monday, March 4, 2013, 4:09 PM

A Flower Show-themed tasting menu, more Pizza Brain, and minibar musings, all on today's Afternoon Snacks!

You probably don’t need to be told that it’s Flower Show time; the spectacle is kind of hard to miss. Of course, we already covered the official edible angle, but if you can’t get enough here’s something else to jump on: Meritage (500 S. 20th St.) is doing a flower tasting menu this week. Available Tue., Mar. 5 through Fri., Mar. 8

Amuse
Kim chi and Chive Fritter, chive blossom

First
Seared New Jersey Scallop, stuffed zucchini blossom, stinging nettle pesto, nasturtium

Second
Roasted Hudson Valley Duck Breast, lavender plum red wine reduction, potato croquette, pansies

Dessert
Lemongrass and coconut panna cotta, elderflower syrup, roasted pineapple, pomegranate, rose petal

Via Pizza Brain (2313 Frankford Ave.) on Instagram, here is just something that made us laugh. If that’s not enough for you, here is some hard news: Pizza Brain is now open on Mondays! As of today. Which is Monday.

From Bon Appetit's blog: a look at Maureen Dowd's controversial "Dream Minibar." OK, Pringles and Kit Kats seem like fairly standard choices, but we're just assuming someone will find a problem with this, because it's Maureen Dowd. We, however, are oddly fixated on her handwriting, which is not at all what we would've imagined. What did we imagine Maureen Dowd's handwriting to look like? Why are we imagining Maureen Dowd's handwriting in the first place? Why are you asking so many questions? Geez.
