Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Tuesday, March 5, 2013, 4:33 PM

Get food truck famous, learn something about food access issues, and go hunting through the wilds of your own pantry, with today's Afternoon Snacks!

If you're not Facebook famous by now, it's probably not going to happen. But take heart—you can still try for food truck famous! Starting tomorrow (Wed., Mar. 6), you can submit your best ideas for a new mac'n'cheese creation to the Mac Mart truck. If yours is chosen (by Facebook/Twitter vote, natch), you'll get the honor of naming it and seeing it in their specials rotation. Oh, and you'll also get some free mac, of course.

Food policy geeks, listen up: you might want to register for this Food Access 101 webinar scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. While the discussion is designated as intro level, it'll be presented by some policy heavyweights, including The Food Trust's John Weidman.

Just sayin': We kinda feel like this is one of the most egregious misuses of the word "optional" we've ever seen.

In case you never picked up the latest edition of Lucky Peach: well, you should, because it's full of great stuff like ferments from Sandor Katz and general tednugentry from Ted Nugent. But if that's not a possibility, Slate has helpfully reprinted this article by Harold McGee on the beauty of preserved goods that are long past their expiration dates, and we think it's worth your while.
