Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Friday, July 13, 2012, 3:00 PM

For our Friday edition of Afternoon Snacks we've got fried chicken, firkin roulette, and rum forward menu of Daiquiris.

Do you know what day it is today? Friday the Firkinteenth at The Grey Lodge (6235 Frankford Ave) in the Northeast. Have no fear, only good can come out of a day dedicated to tapping 21 or more firkins starting at noon today, and going until they kick (late into the night, one can only hope). That means you'll be able to choose from 7 different firkins at any one time until the end of the night. Tapping is random, so follow here for open keg status. The next Friday the Firkinteenth won't be until September 2013, so stuff your pockets (cash only for this event) and make the long hard journey into the Northeast, you will be handsomely rewarded at the end.

Move over KFC, Supper (926 South St.) is bringing you Fried Chicken Tuesdays starting next week on July 17th. Although it will cost you a bit more than a bucket o' chicken at Church's, Chef Prensky's pastrami fried chicken has been named one of the best in the country by Food & Wine Magazine, and it's still a pretty awesome deal. For $25, two can split half a chicken along with the side dish of the week from Blue Elephant Farm and two flour biscuits each.

In the mood for something else? Check out the dinner and brunch menus reworked for summertime farm veggies!

July 19th is National Daiquiri Day, and Cuba Libre (10 S. 2nd St.) is celebrating with cocktails from new El Floridita menu inspired by one of Ernest Hemingway's favorite haunts.
