Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Tuesday, July 17, 2012, 3:30 PM

Thia afternoon we have a Southwestern French dinner from Peter Woolsey at Bistrot La Minette, a first look at a newly launched good for you meal delivery service (read: not pizza), and a few new edible additions to the Porch at 30th St.

Chances are if you are reading this blog, you like to cook. But for those who don't have time, or who are just bad at it, a new Philadelphia start-up, Real Food Works, is in pilot mode for a kitchen-to-door meal delivery program. Lending from local produce delivery programs, Real Food Works is bringing that concept to prepared meals. For $75 a week, you get 5 entrées delivered to your door every Tuesday, prepared by local restaurant or private chefs and catering companies. What sets it apart from other delivery places (think pizza or Tiffin) is that these meals are mostly vegetarian, fresh and healthy. That means no processed food, better nutrition and a lower carbon foot print. Here's a look at last week's menu:

Lemony Quinoa Salad with grilled tofu over a bed of spinach

Tempeh-Walnut Sliders with roasted beet slices, cashew cream cheese and arugula

Steamed Shiitake and Tofu Dumplings with bok choy and lemongrass sauce

Vegetarian Enchiladas with spinach salad and tahini dressing

Black Bean Burger, Moroccan-spiced root vegetables and maple-glazed green beans

Like the sound of those? Soon, clients will be able to choose their 5 entrées out of a larger pool of dishes. If the program is successful, they will be expanding to New York as well. Right now, you must receive the delivery in the Greater Philadelphia area. For more information and to test it out, go to their website.

The Porch at 30th Street Station is racking up good eats with the addition of food trucks to it's summertime weekly Farmer's Market. Starting on July 25th until August 29th, you can grab a bite to eat while you shop for the week's produce and sweets from local farms and vendors. The new kids on the block include Say Cheese, Spot Burger, Nomad Pizza, Lucky Old Souls and Zea May's Native American Flavors. Stop by every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to support Farm to City and sustainable eating!

Au revoir, Provence! For two nights at the end of July, chef Woolsey at Bistrot La Minette (623 S. 6th St.) is abandoning la cuisine provençale to take you on tour of Languedoc in the southeast of France. The food from this region is heavily influenced by Spanish, Moorish and Jewish traditions, and he has developed a four-course prix fixe ($35) for your tasting pleasure. For for some good lookin' wines from the Languedoc, add $15 per person. Here's a peek at the menu:

First Course

Salade Carmaguaise (rice, tuna, shrimp, yellow pepper, saffron and lemon)

paired with

Domaine Rosier Crémant de Limoux (Chardonnay/Mauzac/Chenin/Pinot Noir, Languedoc)

Second Course

Brandade de Morue aux Olives Verts (salted cod, potatoes, green olives)

paired with

I. Chapoutier, Bila Haut (Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc, Languedoc)

Third Course

Roulade de Veau Sétoise (stuffed veal loin, corn)

paired with

Domaine Brunet (Pinot Noir, Vin de pays)

Dessert

Tarte aux Oranges Confits (candied orange peel tart, chocolate sauce)

paired with

M. Chapoutier Banyuls (Grenache, Languedoc)
