Afternoon Snacks

Today for Afternoon Snacks, eat like a staff member, like you're on vacation, and like you grew it yourself. And donuts!

The Industry (1401-1403 E. Moyamensing Ave) is now serving up several special deals, the first one in honor of their dedicated staff members. For all Philly night-owls, you can eat the same plate served to post-service staffers for $6 on Sundays from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. Also for those working in the hospitality 'industry' (proof required), you can eat for 20% off everyday. Monday evening munchies can now be satisfied two ways with Monday Night Burger & Bubbles. You get The Industry Burger (¼ lb. Brisket burger with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickled mayo) with either a glass of sparkling cava or brut rose for $11 (highbrow), or with a cold Miller High Life for $7.50 (divey). On Tuesdays, join them for Buckets of Champagne, where they are serving 5-bottle buckets of Miller High Life (the champagne of beers) for $10 each.

No time for vacation? Geechee Girl (6825 Germantown Ave) has you covered with their new Staycation Thursdays starting today. Each week, they bring you a special menu from one of those exotic destinations that you won't be able to make it to this year. They're starting your Staycation off in Jamaica with this 'yaah, mon'-worthy menu of Jamaican fish soup, jerk salmon with peach salsa, coconut rice and peas, pineapple upside down cake, and half price gingerbeer. BYO rum optional.

Greensgrow Farms (2501 E. Cumberland St.) hosts a Farmstand every Thursday (2 p.m.-7 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) with fresh, local produce for healthy and sustainable eating. This week, they are featuring red and yellow watermelon, their first heirloom tomato crop, okra, peaches, nectarines, plums, blackberries and salad fixins like arugula and carrots. And now on Thursdays, you can fortify yourself before or after produce shopping with burgers, fries and milkshakes from Lucky Old Souls Burger Truck, using all locally-sources ingredients. If you are overwhelmed by all of the choices that the Farmstand has to offer, consider joining their new Greensgrow Farm's LIFE Program, which launched on Saturday and will run for 12 weeks. For $13, you can sign up for a farmshare that provides you with 7 to 10 fresh and local fruits and veggies. After you pick up your farmshare Saturday morning (10 a.m.-11:30 a.m.), you get to observe a free food preparation class using the goodies in your basket (11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.). To join, call Dee at 267-496-0148 or email life@greensgrow.org.

Brunch at Morgan's Pier (221 N. Columbus Blvd.) just got a whole lot cooler. Starting this weekend the donut mad scientists at Federal Donuts are going to be adding their wares to the menu.
