Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 4:15 PM

Good afternoon, today we've got tutorials in beer and butchery as well as some high end KCF.

The Farm and the Fisherman (1120 Pine St.) launched their summer series of whole animal butchery classes last Sunday. Led by Chef Josh Lawler, you will learn how to butcher an entire animal, about the different cuts of meat and the best ways to render them edible. After school is out, students sit down together for a 5-course menu that highlights the animal of the day. With the trendy popularity of pork belly, cracklin', bacon, etc., next Sunday's Whole Pig Butchery Class should be a hit. Email judy@thefarmandfisherman.com to reserve your $140 class and dinner at 1p.m. on August 5th.

Meritage (500 S. 20th St.) is spicing up their Korean Fried Chicken dinners with some new dish compliments. On Thursdays starting this week, you will get Old Bay steamed Louisiana Crawfish, smoked cheddar jalapeño cornbread and coleslaw along with your KFC. The finisher will be a Banana Oreo Pudding, and the entire meal is yours for $27. They expect to run out, so don't forget to make a reservation by calling 215-985-1922.

On a meat strike? Don't forget about Vegan Tuesdays! Every week, they are serving a 5-course all vegan tasting menu $35. Here's a peek:

Amuse Bouche

Spring pea hummus

First Course

Gazpacho

Second Course

Cucumber, chickpea, cherry tomato, pickled onion, basil

Third Course

White corn polenta, tomato chutney, kale, basil emulsion

Fourth Course

Mango Sorbet

On Wednesday August 8th, Ressurection Ale House's (2425 Grays Ferry Ave) monthly Beer School returns after a hiatus in July. Train along with staff to learn about beers through sips and discussion. The best part about this event is that it is free, but you gotta be on time – class is in session at 4pm. Call 215-735-2202 to make sure there is still room.
