Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Tuesday, August 21, 2012, 2:30 PM

Labor Day is just around the corner, but today on Afternoon Snacks we’ve got options to help you make summer count while it’s still around.

Tonight at Lemon Hill (747 N. 25th St), $45 per person gets you a three-course Southern summer feast, with options like biscuits with bacon jam, smoked baby back ribs or chicken, and plenty of classic sides like baked beans and braised collards. Be sure to come thirsty, because for an extra $20 you can supplement your meal with all-you-can-drink brews from Oskar Blues Brewery of Colorado.

For a more outdoorsy experience, hit Morgan’s Pier (221 N. Columbus Blvd.), where Top Chef Kevin Sbraga will be hosting tonight’s Guest Chef Happy Hour. From 5 to 7 p.m., you’ll enjoy drink specials and a Brazilian barbecue menu featuring cachaca-marinated skirt steak.

On Wednesday, chef Tim Spinner at Cantina Feliz (424 S. Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington) will teach you some new tricks to step up your taco party game. For $75, you’ll eat your way through a hands-on class entitled Tacos Galore, then sit down to a tasting menu with pairings included.

Summer also means picnics, of course, and Liberty Lands Park (913-961 N. 3rd St.) is giving you a great excuse to fit in one more: Thursday night at 8:30 pm, they’ve got a free screening of Tim Burton's 80's classic Beetlejuice. There will be popcorn available for purchase, but those with heartier appetites will want to pack a picnic basket. Go traditional with sandwiches from the Foodery (837 N 2nd St) or Soy Café (630 N. 2nd St.), or pizza from nearby Rustica (903 N. 2nd St.) and make it to the park in time to snag the perfect spot.

For those that consider tables and A/C to be dining prerequisites, Matyson (37 South 19th St.) has got you covered every night this week with a timely melon-themed tasting menu.  For $45, you can bring your own favorite summer refresher and savor melons alongside other summer favorites like lobster and tomatoes.
