Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Friday, September 14, 2012, 2:51 PM

On today's Afternoon Snacks, we've got Lobstoberfest, Oktoberfest, and last-gasp outdoor dining around Rittenhouse Square.

Well, it’s neither a traditional Oktoberfest celebration nor a thing that takes place in October, but we’re still sort of tickled by the coinage Lobstoberfest, so here we are. Drop into Bierstube Tsingtau (206 Market St.) today or Saturday for a 1.25-lb., soft-shell Maine lobster and a side of Jersey corn for just $12.99—and please, for the sake of the pun, pair it with a selection from their slew of Oktoberfest ales.

Between this, the rest of Bierstube's plans, Frankford Hall, McGillin’s, Brauhaus Schmitz… well, we’ve given you a ton of Oktoberfest options. But doesn’t a little part of you really want to celebrate Oktoberfest with roast pig (IT’S CALLED SPANFERKEL) and a one-man band at the German Society of Pennsylvania (611 Spring Garden St.)? It sounds like heaven to us, but happily, it’s happening in our worldly realm on Saturday, Sept. 15th.  Tickets are still available for $28 for non-members, and the price includes food, entertainment, and non-alcoholic beverages. (You’ll want to bring cash for the bar.)

Finally, if your weekend plans will find you around Rittenhouse Square, you’ll be hard-pressed to overlook the Rittenhouse Square Fine Arts Show. They’re not just taking over the park; on Saturday, 18th St. will be shut down between Walnut and Locust Sts. to make way for a huge outdoor café for adjacent restos Rouge, Devon, and Parc. Farm to City’s market in the park is still taking place on that day, too, and we couldn’t have hoped for lovelier weather to accompany all that al fresco dining and browsing.
