Afternoon Snacks

POSTED: Monday, September 17, 2012, 2:32 PM

Today's Afternoon Snacks has a Keith Greiman tap takeover, a new cookbook coming from one of the city's favorite bakeries, and food photography at Gallery 339.

Next Monday, Sept. 24, from 6:00 p.m. on, Memphis Taproom (2331 E. Cumberland St.) is handing control of the tap list over to barkeep Keith Greiman. That may not mean much to anyone not on a first-name basis with Taproom staff, but let’s face it: even if all you know is what you see in the pic above and in the list of brews below, you know enough to be at least a little intrigued.

Cask-Cape of Good Hope
Cask-Victory Headwaters Pale Ale
Blind Pig IPA
Evil Twin Femme Fatale
Bear Republic Tartare
Rodenbach Grand Cru
Saison D' Erpe Mere Zymatore
Firestone Walker Wookie Jack
Founders Breakfast Stout '10
Shlenkerla Helles
Allagash Black
Leipziger Gose

Fans of Brown Betty Dessert Boutique (722 N. 2nd St.; second location at Liberty Place) can look forward to trying their hand at duplicating some of the bakery’s specialties at home. The Brown Betty Cookbook looks like it’s almost ready to go, with a release date set for mid-October. Inside, you’ll find goodies like Alice’s Two-Step, Betty’s lemon-iced pound cake, a host of ways with buttercream, and the family recipe for rice pudding.

If giving your stomach a rest and feasting your eyes for a change sounds good to you, check out Gallery 339’s (339 S. 21st St.) upcoming exhibit, More Photos of Buildings and Food. It sounds like an improbable combo (unless you’re a Talking Heads fan), but should be pretty palatable nonetheless. Featured artists include Zoe Strauss, Dominic Episcopo, and many more. After the opening reception this Friday evening, Sept. 21st, the exhibit will run through December 22nd.
