Afternoon Snacks: Weekend Edition

POSTED: Friday, August 10, 2012, 3:02 PM

For this edition of Afternoon Snacks we've got all sorts of summery seafood happenings.

For all of those who didn't make it down the shore this year, the Piazza at Schmidt's (1050 N. Hancock St.) has got you covered. Head over to Northern Liberties on Saturday the 18th for the 1st Annual Beach Bonanza. Sunbathe, enjoy the music and celebrate summer from 3 to 10 p.m. in your swimsuit for an urban day at the beach. There will be kiddie pools for the kids and beach-inspired cocktails for the parents, so bring your family. Food trucks Delicias, Jimmies Cupcakes, Lucky Old Souls Burgers, Spot Gourmet Burgers, Pork and Steaks and Sweetbox Cupcakes will be there to provide refreshments all day.

Russet (1521 Spruce St.) is bringing the ocean to you for their final event in the “Meet the Farmer Series” on August 22nd with a Seafood Tasting Menu featuring the Steve Bowes Organic Family Farm from Milton, PA. The seafood will be locally and sustainably sourced and paired with fresh, pesticide-free tomatoes, corn, eggplants and peppers from the farm. Call 215-546-1521 to get your name down for this 5-course $65 prix fixe. Seafood line up looks like this:

Amuse Bouche

Cured Scottish sea trout with cherry tomatoes, rye crostini, caraway and moutarde de meaux

First Course

Stuffed corno di torno peppers with house-made ricotta, oregano, roasted Marvesta shrimp and Campari sauce

Second Course

Finn potato gnocchi with seared scallop, yellow sweet corn, aged balsamic and chives

Third Course

Whole salt-baked wild striped bass with roasted eggplant, tomato fondue and basil

Fourth Course

Seasonal dessert

More seafood delight is coming your way with the City Tap House (3925 Walnut St.) Crabfest next Saturday August 18th. Buy one $35 ticket and get all-you-can eat Maryland blue crabs from 1 to 4 p.m. Live music from TJ Kong & the Atomic Bomb will be blasting all day while you crack crabs on the restaurant balcony. Wash them down with $3 Brooklyn and Narragansett cans and white peach sangria. Tickets are available here.
