Big Marc? New burger alert at Alla Spina

POSTED: Thursday, July 19, 2012, 4:45 PM

The dudes behind the line at Marc Vetri's Alla Spina know how to treat sandwiches. They've got a veal cutlet hoagie with bacon mayo that is nothing short of genius, a mind bending cheesesteak on a pretzel roll, and a mortadella dog that's late night happy hour perfect.

The latest addition to the Alla Spina sandwich hall of fame is doesn't really fall under the Italian gastropub header, but man, is it a killer burger.

The newly minted burger is a spot on rendition of the fast-food style burger.

For those unfamiliar with food nerdy burger definitions, here's what Adam Kuban has to say about said burger style: "We've always used this term on A Hamburger Today to denote burgers that seem to take their inspiration from fast food burgers but that are somehow better--either in terms of ingredients or preparation or both. Fast food–style burgers will be made with fresh-not-frozen beef; use the freshest, crispest produce; and generally come from a sole location or, at most, a small, local chain."

It's a potato bunned double, with two loosely packed patties seared long enough for a nice crust with a touch of pink, melty cheddar, thin rounds of pickle, shredded iceberg, and tangy mystery sauce that's got hot sauce and green onions for sure plus, well, secret ingredients. Your choice of house made barbecue or salt and vinegar chips on the side.

In the realm of Philly burger supremacy, this one is going to give line-around-the-block newcomer Shake Shake a serious run for it's money. It's fast food-style burger amazingness.

Alla Spina is in the market for a moniker for its new burger. Get at them via twitter with your creative burger naming skills. We're thinking the Doppio-Doppio.
