Breaking: $25 cheesesteak debuts at American Sardine Bar tonight

POSTED: Friday, July 27, 2012, 11:30 AM

Brace yourselves: sandwich whisperer Scott Schroeder is rolling out a $25 cheesesteak (!!!) tonight at American Sardine Bar (1801 Federal St.) Not going for gimmicky, just good, this high-end take on our city's most well known comestible has been in the works for sometime and tonight marks it's public debut.

The price tag is steep but the makings of this steak are top notch. Beginning with 48 day dry aged ribeye from venerable meat mavens Pat LaFrieda, the steak is topped off with sautéed Vidalia onions and royal trumpet mushrooms and shaved Cacio di Bosco, a truffled Pecorino. Piled on a garlic butter brushed Sarcone's roll and served alongside a au jus style cup of beef broth made from the ribeye bones, this steak promises to be pretty out of control.
