Brunch options like crazy this weekend

There has been much rumbling in the Philly brunch world as of late. Check out all the new options and menus that have bubbled up in the past couple of weeks ...

- Tashan (777 S. Broad St.) began Sunday brunch in early March. For $7, they offer a build-your-own-Bloody accented by an assortment of Indian spices. Or maybe you’d prefer the Bloody Bull, a cocktail (though it sounds like a meal) that includes all the usual accompaniments, plus beef broth, blue cheese and bacon bits. That'd probably be with spiced pork sliders and housemade pickles. In fact, if you order any brunch entrée, Tashan will give you a Bloody or mimosa on the house. Brunch is served Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Bar Ferdinand (Liberties Walk, 1030 N. Second St.) brings back its Spanish brunch menu this Sunday, March 25. Try the Torrija Rellena de Manzana, a Spanish take on French toast with cider-soaked brioche stuffed with sautéed apples and golden raisins. Wash it down with a Mimosa or a Bloody Maria for $8 — or pay $14 for a bottomless glass of either. Ferdy's brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

- Beat out the weekend mobs by heading to Cantina Los Cabillitos (1651 E. Passyunk Ave)  this afternoon — they recently started serving brunch seven days a week. Nosh on familiar dishes with a Mexi twist, like eggs benedict with green chile corn bread and chipotle hollandaise sauce. Brunch is served here daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

- It's hard to tell you exactly what Russet (1521 Spruce St,) will offer for brunch since the menu changes daily. (Check out their website to read about the four to five fresh ingredients that will be informing their cooking that day.) Brunch entrées hover in the $12-to-$15 margin. Bring a bottle of Champagne since it's BYO. Russet brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

- Chestnut Hill's Heirloom (8705 Germantown Ave.) is BYO, too — they sell Bloody mixers if you want to come armed with vodka. For $22.95 a person, you get an appetizer, entrée and dessert. Check out the king salmon with Anson Mills grits, double beans and apple-fennel relish. Brunch is served on Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

- Rex 1516 (1516 South St.) begins brunch service this Saturday, March 24, and their brunch menu draws from the same place as dinner: the American South. Try the duck confit omelette, with tallegio, and housemade chaurice (New Orleans-style chorizo). Or go for the blackened shrimp and grits with roasted tomatoes and crispy pork belly. Rex's bar offers a few specials for brunch, as well; we want the mimosa spiked with basil vodka for $10. Rex brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
