Celebrate the last days of Summer of Riesling at a.kitchen

POSTED: Friday, August 31, 2012, 5:17 PM

Tim Kweeder, the wine director of a.kitchen (135 South 18th St.) is on a mission, preaching the gospel of Riesling. He's sending off the Summer of Riesling with a line up of eight remarkable Rieslings by the glass beginning on September 1 and running until the 21.

Meal Ticket had a chance to sit down with the Riesling master and taste out way through the starting line up. Kweeder shared his staff training notes with us, a handout that was both downright hilarious and chock full of pertinent Riesling intel, including a spot-on analogy comparing the ever-versatle Riesling to glam-chameleon David Bowie.

Kweeder will have you know that acidity in Riesling allows it to pair with all sorts of unexpected dishes, he swears that it's a steak's best mate. And if you're going for wine geek cred, learning the difference between a Kabinett and Trockenbeernauslese will score you some serious points.

So if you'd like to help Kweeder forever banish the Blue Nun stigma, head on down to a.kitchen and groove on some gorgeous Summer of Riesling pours.

Both bottles in the picture - the Karl Erbes Würzgarten Spätlese and the Hövel in the background - are delicious.
