E. Passyunk's getting its own Restaurant Week
It seems that with every restaurant boom comes a Restaurant Week, and the E. Passyunk corridor is no exception. The neighborhood's first stab at RW is coming up Feb. 24 through Mar. 2, but the full details and menus are rolling out now, which means you'll want to start thinking about reservations if you want in. And of course, there are some great options on the list. Full details can be found here, though some menus won't be available until tomorrow.
One nice thing about this particular restaurant week is that it offers a lot of variety. In addition to lunch and dinner menus, there are 3 different price points ($15, $25, and $35), so even casual, inexpensive spots can get involved and offer deals on terms that make sense to them and their customers. We've selected a few highlights below, but don't forget to check back with the official site to learn more.
Stogie Joe's (1801 E. Passyunk Ave.) will run a $15 lunch deal that includes their meatball sandwich, choice of soup or salad, and a glass of wine. Dinner will set you back $25 and includes soup or salad, choice of any pasta dish except ravioli, garlic bread, a meatball and a glass of wine.
Cantina Los Caballitos (1651 E. Passyunk Ave.) has a $25 prix fixe planned for dinner Sunday through Thursday, featuring dishes like grilled squid steak with chimichurri, Mexican greens, roasted corn salsa and white rice, and roasted pork loin with peanut mole, refried beans and vegetable rice. Of course they'll also have a vegan option available, and you can tack on tequila pairings for another $10.
Birra (1700 EPA) will also offer up a cozy $25 option, with some dishes that are definitely not RW standards, like shrimp and grits, seared octopus with tomato compote, 12 bean medley and shaved fennel, and a special pizza topped with local mushrooms, a fried egg, and shaved black truffle.
Fond's (1537 S. 11th St.) $35 dinner menu will feature roasted mushroom risotto, beef short ribs with caramelized onion spaetzle, Brussels sprouts and sauce bordelaise, and malted milk chocolate ice cream and peanut brittle courtesy of Jessie Prawlucki.
Le Virtù (1927 EPA) is getting involved at the $35 point on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of RW (let them know you want the RW menu when you reserve, and be aware that the whole table has to commit to the special menu) You'll get to sample their awesome house-made charcuterie and dishes like braised egg and cheese croquettes in tomato sauce and maccheroni alla mugnaia (the entire plate of pasta is one single, impressive strand).
Will BYOB (1911 EPA) will offer highlights from their winter menu for the $35 RW deal, but only on Wednesday and Thursday nights. The menu will include whole roasted maitake mushroom with ricotta, Madeira and petit herbs, and Barnegat Light scallops with
Jerusalem artichoke, celery and nasturtium; a $10 supplement will net you three oysters with yuzu and saffron sorbet.
