Firestone Walker makes a splash at SPTR and Brew tonight

Today, the good folks at South Philly Tap Room (1509 Mifflin St.) and Brew (1900 S. 15th St.) introduce SoCal brewery Firestone Walker (which, ironically, also operate a restaurant called The Taproom) to our thirsty republic. Started by Adam Firestone and David Walker in 1996 on a rented parcel of the Firestone Vineyard estate in Santa Barbara, FWBC now runs its oak-barrel brewery out of Paso Robles.

Walker has made the 2800-mile journey from Cali to Philly, and will be in the flesh at Brew until 3 p.m. this afternoon for a sampling of Double Jack (imperial IPA), Walker's Reserve (porter), their in-the-renaming-process barleywine formerly known as Abacus and the limited-edition oak-aged 14th Anniversary Ale. Then, the meet-and-greet hops across the street to SPTR for happy hour-price Double Jack and Walker's Reserve drafts, plus organic salmon tartare, beef carpaccio with fried oysters and taleggio with honey and apple from chef Scott Schroeder. Here's a little something to sweeten the pot: Buy any bottle of Firestone at Brew and get half off your first Firestone drafts at SPTR. Welcome to Philly, Firestone — looking forward to getting to know you better.
