Friday is peachy at Miss Rachel's Pantry

POSTED: Wednesday, August 1, 2012, 11:47 AM

Haven't made it down to vegan haven Miss Rachel's Pantry (1732 W. Passyunk Ave.) yet? Her weekend vegan tasting menus have been wowing both vegetarians and omnivores for a while now but this Friday's peach-centric menu reads like one of Rachel's best yet. Each course incorporates in-season summer fruit into a sweet-meets-savory dish. As per usual the diner is BYO and $45 a head. There are still a few seats left for the 7 p.m. “Life’s a Peach at The Pantry” Farmhouse dinner. Reserve your spot by calling 215-798-0053.

First

Sweet petite peach grilled ‘cheese’ with caramelized onions or chipotle-peach seitan crunchy tacos.

Second

Peachy picnic salad with avocados, local tomatoes and citrus dressing or chilled ginger peach soup with local corn and cashew ‘sour cream’

Third

Roasted seitan glazed with peach chutney, served with garlicky mashed potatoes and caramelized brussels sprouts or hearts of palm and white bean cake with pickled peach relish and creamy red heirloom quinoa ‘grits’

Forth

Peach and strawberry cobbler with whipped cream or peachy parfait with vanilla ice cream and homemade granola
