Hanukkah Happenings at Zahav

POSTED: Tuesday, November 27, 2012, 1:44 PM

In honor of the festival of lights Zahav (237 Saint James Place) is rolling out a Hanukkah-inpsired tasting menu from December 8th to the 16th. The $48 wintery menu includes Solomov's always amazing hummus topped off with spiced beef along with the usual salatim suspects followed by a chickpea and olive oil soup with pumpkin. Latkes forgo the applesauce and sour cream in favor of apple labneh and salmon bastuma (think salmon pastrami). For mains Solomonov is braising lamb shanks with quince and smoked cinnamon and serving them on a bed of freekah, a roasted green wheat. And the traditional jelly donut dessert getting a redux with pear jam and sachlab, a warm milky drink made with the powdered roots of orchids.

A little later in the month the folks at Zahav will be hosting their annual Chistmas party and this year they're forgoing Chinese takeout for Korean. More info on menu and movie screenings to come. Fingers crossed for KFC!
