The Hot Diggity makes its star turn

POSTED: Monday, January 7, 2013, 3:11 PM

It's a big week for the Hot Diggity (630 South St.): first their menu was named #1 menu of the year (no, really!), and on Wednesday, they'll be featured on the Travel Channel. Once upon a time (read: March), we told you about the filming, and now it's finally set to air. Tune in or set your DVR to record Hot Dog Paradise 2 on Jan. 9 at 11 p.m.

While we won't know what made it into the final cut until Wednesday night, owner Keith Garabedian tells us that they got an entire day's worth of footage—including tons of interviews with employees and customers alike, and an impromptu and "particularly awkward" reenactment of a brainstorming session for a menu special. While (#1 menu designer of the year) Hawk Krall was unable to attend the filming, it sounds like his artwork should feature prominently in the episode.

And since it seems like a no-brainer that you would stop by Hot Diggity for some takeout to go with your viewing, let's talk specials. This January's special dog is the over-the-top Buffalo Buffalo Dog, a spicy buffalo hot dog (from D’Angelo’s in the Italian Market), buttermilk chive dressing, house hot and honey wing sauce, celery, Maytag blue cheese, scallions, and chicken cracklings on a butter-toasted bun. And they've got a bunch of new housemade sodas, too, including Yerba Mate Ginger Ale and a Spicy PB&J (with a spicy rim) inspired by the FedNuts favorite.
