Isabel, from the owners of Fairmount's Trio (2624 Brown St.), will open to the public this coming Monday, Oct. 3. Swung by the Mexicali BYOB, in the ground-floor restaurant space of the 2601 Parkway condo complex (2601 Pennsylvania Ave., 215-472-8088), to snap a few pics.

As we told you in late August, Michael Poole and Van Chau landed this 30-seat location after poking around Brewerytown for a minute to open a new concept. They did all the tweaks on the former Coffee Room Café themselves, totaling about seven months of work — glazed cottonwood kitchen bar, cherrywood tables, warm, hearthy paint job augmenting pre-existing design elements like the tiled glass on the dining room's far end.

Poole, who will be the chef at Isabel, is going with the "Mexicali" label because he plans on taking ample liberties with the south-of-the-border cooking that'll populate his $20-entrée-and-under menu. But he'll also go the traditional route with individual dishes — think pozole, queso fundido or Baja-style mahi-mahi tacos joining riffy eats like Berkshire pork or a quinoa rock shrimp salad with black beans and corn. Drink-wise, Poole and Chau encourage diners to bring along own tequila, as they've landed a high-tech blender they're itching to use to crank out in-house drink mixes.

Isabel will serve dinner from 5 p.m. every day but Tuesday.
