Magpie Artisan Pie Bakery & Boutique coming to South Street
Holly Ricciardi, a newcomer to the local baking scene, will open Magpie Artisan Pie Bakery & Boutique at 1622 South Street this summer. Ricciardi, who holds a culinary degree from at The Art Institute of Philadelphia, previously opened 20nine, a brand development agency, with her husband in 2002, and has decided to take on this different, more yeasty endeavor.
Magpie's will offer pies priced at $5 to $8 per slice and $18 to $30 per whole shebang. The opening menu will include sweet treats like blueberry cardamom polenta pie, salted chocolate meringue pie and butterscotch bourbon custard, plus savory options like croque monsieur, chicken tarragon and ham potato leek pies. The savory choices will all come with housemade pickled veggies.
Ricciardi plans to open Magpie's doors this June. They operate Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
