Entrepreneur-about-town Joseph Bernstein, with whom we've judged several Big Bite food competitions, has broken into the Philly food-cart game with Peoples' Republic, a week-old burrito-rolling operation situated in the Garden Variety lot at Second and Poplar (also home to the new La Copine). PR, which opened last Saturday, offers three $8 burrito varieties (bulgogi beef, roast pork and chicken curry) Friday and Saturday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. (Oh, they sell quarter waters too!) They'll eventually move up to a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night operation.

hey hahork, what's authentic about burritos in the first place, you gringo? they're an american invention. who cares what their creator's name is? are you racist? regarding the truck, it's too bad they don't have a vegetarian option on the menu, because i'll need something to go with my quarter water!

masochster- i actually do all the prep and cooking for the truck (thats me in the pictures). there is always a vegetarian option available. Last week i made a Thai red curry tofu. It was quite popular so it will probably get a reprise this week unless inspiration strikes before tomorrow. If you have suggestions, im pretty open to preparing new veggie dishes. Just stop by and say "hi"!

p.s. we will be open Fri, Sat, and Sun this weekend.
