NYCWFF: Sushi and Karaoke with Morimoto

POSTED: Saturday, October 13, 2012, 1:20 PM

Note: This weekend team Meal Ticket is checking out the eats at the Food Network Wine & Food Festival. Check back all weekend for updates and be sure to follow the action on Twitter.

Last night team Meal Ticked headed up to the mahogany and taxidermy-decked halls of the Harvard Club for Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto's sushi and karaoke party.

Before moving on to a list of hilarious karaoke numbers and enough Top Chef alums to cast a season of All-Stars, we should probably begin with the stellar seafood offerings of the evening.

Morimoto has manning a massive raw bar under an even more massive mounted elephant head with his sous slicing paper thin petals of sea bass topped with yuzu and crunchy flakes of pink salt. Old school Food Network vet Ming Tsai was sizzling sliced Hamachi to order and finishing the plates with puffed rice.

Other big winners were Marea's seppia tagliatelle with cucumber agrodolce, Mono + Mono's kimchi kalbi roll with spicy tuna and Paul Liebrant's striped bass jamon with yuzu, pear and cilantro.

Our own Jen Carroll was on hand chatting it up with season two Marcel Vignernon and season three winner Hung Huynh. Offal enthusiast Chris Cosentino was there alongside the even beefier in person Robert Irvine.

Karaoke kicked off with Man v. Food's Adam Richman making his way onto the stage, cane in hand (??) and serenading the crowd with Billy Idol's White Wedding. A bit later in the evening we got a chance to see Jen Carroll's stand up rendition of Sweet Home Alabama.

Just as we were about to call it a night Guy Fieri rolled in with his crew, er krew. Pretty sure that everyone in the room was hoping for Fieri to do a sweet number by Smashmouth or even better Bitchin' Camero, but alas, he only stayed for a drink before exiting with his entourage.
