New life for Kristian's Ristorante in South Philly

Kristian Leuzzi, owner of Stogie Joe's (1801 E. Passyunk Ave.), plans to open his “new” restaurant, tentatively named Kris, sometime in September. "New" is in quotations because the location is the former Kristian's Ristorante, the Italian fine-dining establishment at 11th and Federal that Leuzzi shut down in October 2009. “Kristian’s closed because fine dining went out and business sort of trailed off," says Leuzzi. So he and his team are retooling the restaurant to make the atmosphere and menu more casual.

Leuzzi wants to cater more toward the neighborhood and late-night crowds. Kris will be open seven days a week, with daily food and drink specials. A brunch/lunch menu will be available Wednesday through Sunday beginning at 10 or 11 a.m. in addition to a $10 late-night menu beginning at 10 p.m. "It’s not going to be upscale like Kristian’s was," says Leuzzi. "It's going to be nice, simple food — homey Mediterranean/Italian comfort food.” Think sandwiches, pastas and individual grilled pizzas, priced in the ballpark of $8 to $15 for brunch/lunch and $10 to $22 for dinner. The drink menu will feature bottled and canned beers and a selection of martinis. Guests will be welcome to BYOB with no corkage.
