"Well, it looks like I own a swim club." That's the first thing Brian Nagele of Cities2Night said when he called to tell me he took over the private Arrow Swim Club and its indoors restaurant. The pricey members-only spot was previously held by Nicole Cashman and Bart Blatstein, the latter the developer who not long ago leased the Piazza restaurant Apollinare to Nagele to open Kings Oak. "Bart is just the landlord of the swim club spot, with me leasing the space," says Nagele. "And there will be a few changes."

The first is that it will no longer be called the Arrow — instead, it'll be known as North Shore Beach Club. Rather than charge $1,000 for a six-month membership, it'll cost $500 a year for as long as the space is open. The doors will not be thrown open to the general public as has long been discussed/wished for; space, rather, will be reserved for members and their guests, or something like that. "DJs and entertainment, yes — but I'm not having public events or $10 parties," says Nagele. "I'm a part of this neighborhood and want this to be there for the people in this neighborhood. There's nothing pretentious to be found here."

Along with changing around the club's décor, Nagele is definitely turning its restaurant, Chenango (above), to something Cuban-themed, with appropriate minor cosmetic design touches. "Gone is the Southwest menu and look," says Nagele, who'll bring in one-time Il Pittore/Parc chef Sean Elstone. As for the name of that portion of the space, he's toying with a few at present.

"While I’d like to open the pool the first week in May, I might open it earlier if the weather is nice,” adds Nagele. "The restaurant? I’m looking to open in April."
