Friday night started out with a maiden voyage to Miss Rachel's Pantry (1732 W. Passyunk Ave.) for one of her Farm House Dinners. This evening's theme was peaches, summery, beautiful peaches. Chipotle-peach seitan tacos, a peachy picnic salad of tomatoes and avocados and a cobbler with weird but wonderful vegan whipped cream where all hits. Second dessert happened up at the grand opening of Little Baby's Ice Cream (2311 Frankford Ave.) by way of a vegan mint cookie ice cream sandwich.—CR

Beat the traffic to the Shore on Friday, arriving in time for these fried oysters and spicy red crab soup at the in-laws' beach pad. There were seafood kebabs, corn on the cob, and peach pie for dessert. These people do summer eating right.—AE

Grabbed a noteworthy, apres-beach cheesesteak at Russo's (901 Ocean Ave.), a deli/market/hoagie shop combo in North Wildwood. (The team of teenage girls taking orders and wrapping subs in the back run a tight-ass ship.) Later, set sail on a touristy-but-awesome sunset dinner cruise around Cape May. There were dolphins, and more importantly, pulled pork sandwiches.—AE

Before heading over to the Mad Decent Block Party, I fortified with a giant burger from South Philly Taproom (1509 Mifflin St.) with mustardy special sauce, smoked cheddar and a generous slice of yellow tomato.—CR

Meat-and-potatoes for dinner on Sunday: aces, but the real crowning glory was MIL's crunchy-cornered old-school pineapple upside-down cake made with vanilla pudding and lots of butter and brown sugar. Glad I have five days to work that off before I've got to be in a bathing suit again.—AE

Waking up from a few too many Tennessee Lemonades at my second home, Morgan's Pier, I decided to get walk it off and over to the just opened Blue Belly BBQ (600 Catherine St.) to slay any remaining hangover with pork. Berkshire pork shoulder was fatty and tender in all of the right ways, mac and cheese creamy, topped with fried onions a la green bean casserole, and braised greens hit with just the right amount of vinegar.—CR
