Notes from the Weekend is a feature that sees the members of Team Meal Ticket compiling all the food/drink highlights uncovered during prime eatin' time, Friday to Sunday. Consider this a place for good deals, great dishes, wicked cocktails, recipe triumphs (and tragedies), bizarro conversations and more. We're eager to share our notes, but especially excited to read yours. We encourage you to leave notes from YOUR weekend in the comments. Have at it! Dipped from work early Friday to meet with the folks at Hawthornes (738 S. 11th St.), where I also downed a few quickies, including the sick Cuvee de Jacobins. Saying the name out loud made me think of this and I laughed to myself and probably looked psycho. Later that night I posted up at the bar at Lemon Hill (747 N. 25th St.) and straight kilt their shrimp and grits. So good but I ate it too fast and contemplated pulling an O-Twizzle at the pass. —DL

Friday: Spent an obscene amount of time at Good Karma (331 S. 22nd St.) trying to meet a grad school deadline. Their $3 bottomless cup of coffee and Sengalese chicken soup helped me through. Later, tried to make to recreate a lemonade I'd tried at Whole Foods. Even though we included every last ingredient on the list (lemon, ginger, cayenne, agave), the proportions were way off. Nota bene: a quarter-teaspoon of of cayenne goes a long way. —KL

Saturday's wintry mix couldn't stop the crowds at the monthly winter market in Lansdowne, where Sycamore's Sam Jacobson was frying up these lemon-and-rosemary-laced yeast doughnuts drizzled with salty caramel sauce. He says they'll be the signature dessert of the new restaurant he and Stephen Wagner are opening next month. More on that on Meal Ticket later  today. —AE

I was in NYC this weekend visiting Friend of Meal Ticket JN, and Saturday started off real classy. Brunched at Colicchio & Sons (85 10th Ave.) and had Benton's Bloody (bacon, celery bitters ... and bourbon!) and ricotta pancakes. Maybe I can't make ricotta pancakes, but Tom C. sure can. After brunch, toured Chelsea Market (75 9th Ave.) and walked the whole High Line. —AW

Parents of Meal Ticket PL and GL came up to visit Saturday afternoon — put together a lox spread with Spread Bagelry (262 S. 20th St.) bagels ahead of shooting over to my alma mater La Salle to see them lose in basketball to St. Louis. (What is a Billiken?) Way later that evening, got temporary snow blindness en route to Sidecar (2201 Christian St.) for beers, shots and Reubens. You're still the one, Sidey. —DL

Saturday: More grad school work. I rewarded myself with one of my favorite pastimes: drinking beer in the shower. Bell's Java Stout accompanied me this time. Enjoyed baked spaghetti and salad for supper with some good friends. —KL

This curried parsnip soup (also a Lansdowne market get) thawed me out back at home. Really nice body, subtle sweetness and expert spicing, one of Sam J's fortes. —AE

Stayed classy through Saturday, beginning with Rye (247 S. First St.) in Williamsburg. I had a Havemeyer Cocktail (essentially a Manhattan plus fino) and we split fried Brussels to start. I had the braised short rib; JN had the shrimp and scallop kebabs. Went to a friend's birthday party in Park Slope where dessert was hot dog pizza (!) and Aviations. Only slightly less classy. Everyone decided to leave the party (including its host) to go to High Dive (243 Fifth Ave.). We ate/spilled lots of popcorn and drank St. Germain cocktails. —AW

A New Year's resolution of mine was to stop eating such ridiculous shit late at night. I'll start next week because I murked this steak acquisition (shoutout to the Cook crew!) around 1 a.m. Sunday moning. That's HP Sauce, former Meal Ticket Intern LRP can tell you all about that. —DL

My parents are in Mexico (joining them Thursday!) so C and I dog-sat Penelope this weekend. She's on a strict diet of dog food and vegetables (Mom: "She is very into Brussels sprouts right now."), but when she came sniffing after my pasta, I couldn't resist that face. Sorry, ma. —AE

Sunday: Took a break from writing at 1 p.m. to lunch with my girls. Turnip chips with rosemary, potatoes with pancetta; apples, blue cheese, and greens; blueberries with coconut oil and cocoa powder ... rounded off with some samoa girl scout cookies. I worked at Ultimo Coffee (1900 S. 15th St.) afterward with a latte to keep me hydrated. H fed me more baked spaghetti for my first dinner, and I had a second one at the new European Republic (602 South St.) — French fries, a chicken wrap and a pear nectar. —KL

Back around the holidays, I made a big batch of orrechietti from Marc Vetri's latest cookbook. I froze the extra and finally got around to cooking it on Saturday for a solo dinner while C was visiting friends in Coatesville. Kept it real simple with caramelized onions, wilted spinach, lemon oil and punchy aged goat cheese. —AE

Sunday afternoon, stopped by Ramen Boy (204 N. Ninth St.) and stumbled across Iron Tower (56 N. Ninth St.). JS from Midtown Lunch must be considerably more attractive than me because she got way more sando options just last week. Dinner that night was at Zahav (237 St. James Place), and they killeddddd it. Holy hell. I don't need to sit here and tell y'all how good it is, but I will say one of my favorite plates was the lamb's tongue with serrano puree, apricot and kale. Smashed it. —DL

Met up with my aunt, uncle and cousin for Sunday brunch in Chinatown at Dim Sum Go Go (5 E. Broadway) and ordered probably a million dumplings, 50 roast pork steamed buns and 20 of the slippery noodles with the shrimp inside. Because we weren't full from all the Chinese food ever, we went to La Bella Ferrara (108 Mulberry St.) in Little Italy for dessert. I got a latte and creme brulee, JN had some sort of mascarpone chocolate circle. —AW

Sunday I went to the gym and was so proud of myself, I toasted to my motivation with a breakfast cheesesteak at American Sardine Bar (1801 Federal St.), piña colada and vanilla-lavender guys from Federal Donuts (1219 S. Second St.) and Girl Scout Thin Mints outside Shop-Rite. Cheers. —AE

After a high-stress Friday afternoon joining the commute crew for my first-ever sampling as a Duvel rep in Malvern and a birthday party at Lucky 13 (1820 S. 13th St.) featuring "the Gary Adams Special" aka $3.50 whiskey drinks at which I unwound a little too hard, I spent a much-needed Saturday with my Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Box Set and popcorn. A lot of popcorn. That evening, when I couldn't even look at another kernel and my dignity was beginning to encroach on something like rocks, we popped over to Le Virtu (1927 E. Passyunk Ave.) for drinks and salumi at the bar. As an extra treat and an even quicker way out of the popcorn gutter, Chef Joe took us down to their in-house salumeria, running us through the unbelievable pains they take to ensure that everything served there is handmade with love to reflect the years of tradition their cuisine is rooted in. What an awesome experience and what an amazing place!

Friday night I headed over to Deke's BBQ where he was celebrating his win (for wings) at the Manayunk Ice Festival thingie I forget the real title. Nicest bartender in the world Karen gave us a shot of her Thai chili infused vodka (also flavored with ginger, star anise, among other things). I'm not a straight up vodka drinker but this stuff was pretty incredible. I capped the night with a dark and stormy and a plate of hush puppies and their homemade pickles and my guy had the Sloppy Doc-potato wedges topped with pulled pork, cheese sauce, cole slaw, and garnished with pickles. Devilish.

Saturday morning we trekked to Tir Na Nog to watch some of the Six Nations rugby tournament. I started the morning with a Bloody Mary and a farmer's frittata-bleu cheese, asparagus, roasted red peppers, and spinach. Really good, and I'm not an egg eater. The boyfriend got his beloved Irish breakfast and I can finally say I tried blood sausage. Not bad.

Saturday night was a 30th birthday party for my best friend at Frankford Hall. It seems like an awesome place, but it was so crowded that they made us wait at the door for other folks to leave. I'm too old for that noise. I loved the beer selection though-I'll definitely go back in the warm weather when the courtyard isn't a snowy mess.

Sunday was hangover day-cooked the boy and our two friends who crashed some sausage, bacon, and home fries. I finished the day with a few Long Trail IPAs and Storm of Swords. And Cheez-Its, bless em.

When I read that Ramen Boy had opened on Friday, I knew I had to get there for lunch. Sat at the bar and did the spicy ramen, crazy oxtail broth. The whole staff was super sweet.

On Saturday, my cousin and I went ice skating but on the walk there, Federal Donuts miraculously appeared. We almost ditched ice skating all together but figured it'd be better afterwards. We were told we could wait to see if there was still chicken left, so of course, we did (and munched on the vanilla lavender & Indian cinnamon donuts meanwhile) - and were so pumped when there was not one but two half chickens left. So we got both -- harissa & buttermilk ranch. Finished them in a drunken daze later that night. My cousin, who was visiting, was like, we need to go back there.

Sunday afternoon was brunch at Penang in Chinatown, beef rendang & nasi lemak (after a breakfast sandwich & coffee at Artisan Boulanger - finally got up early enough!). Our server exhibited the typical Chinatown-restaurant-racism and tried very hard to convince my buddies not to order some tangy soup. They did anyway, of course, and finished it all.

Omg it's Girl Scout cookie time?!

Working in a flower shop the weekend before Valentine's Day turns everything into a blur. I do however remember the killer meal at Zahav, loved the Branzino and the dessert with the labneh ice cream!
