Now Pouring: Founders All Day IPA

This weekend, beer bars in the know are tapping the seasonal All Day IPA (formerly called Endurance) from Founders, a craft brewery in Grand Rapids, MI that’s much beloved by Philadelphia beverage enthusiasts. This power session beer, coming in at just 4.7% ABV and 147 calories, is, according to their website “The beer you’ve been waiting for.” Compared with the 7.2% ABV of Founder’s flagship IPA, Centennial, this toned down brew does seem to provide a saner choice for casual, summery activities enhanced with a light buzz: camping, tubing, picnicking, ball game watching, and the like.

Founders only offers two seasonal, limited release beers each year (the other is the wintry Breakfast Stout), so for a city as obsessed and zealous about their beer drinking habits as ours, this is kind of a big deal. Kite and Key, Bishop’s Collar, Memphis Taproom, The South Philly Taproom ($3 pints!) are all tapping the All Day IPA today. For a more impressive take home quantity, the Beer Yard (218 East Lancaster Ave., Wayne PA) is offering an All Day tasting all day long, so you can see if all the hype is worth the $41 plus tax for a case to call your own.

If you can hold your horses until Monday, Local 44 in West Philly is tapping All Day on Monday at 11AM, though it threatens to be outshined by a whole mess of highly sought after beers, including (ready for this?): Russian River’s Pliny the Younger, Pliny the Elder, Damnation, Supplication, and Consecration 2011, Troeg’s Nugget Nectar, De Dolle’s Arabier, and a Local 44/Manayunk collabo called Duet, a 5% sour-ish Belgian Pale inspired by Taras Boulba and De Ranke XX Bitter. Sounds like a good enough reason to call out sick from work and test out your all day drinking skills.
