While the Piazza at Schmidts awaits the coming of Tony Rim’s Raw concept into the mega-space once held by Speck (think June’s end), another of its larger restaurant rooms became available up when Apollinare split after only 12 months of its occupancy. Who is going to fill all that square footage? A nice guy and a great acquaintance — Brian Nagele, CEO of Philly2Night.com, a local listings and entertainment website.

Though Nagle is currently waiting until late summer to renovate and change the permanent name for a re-launch in September, he and chef Dayna Russo (formerly with Liberties in Philly and 10th & Willow in Hoboken, N.J.) will get things going within the next two weeks when he starts the "Sunday Brunch & Beats" party.

What is the menu looking like going forward? “Definitely not Italian fine dining like the former ownership,” says Nagele, who is currently the sole owner. “The neighborhood is young and energetic and so are we. Our brick-oven pizza will be the focus, plus small-plate eclectic items, salads and sandwiches. We'll have a casual fun atmosphere with good music, outgoing service staff, beer and cocktails, 200 feet of outdoor seating and plenty of TVs to watch the games." Sounds like a party plan. For now, though, they'll operate with "minimal cosmetic changes to the decor" beginning this weekend, with a new staff offering a scaled-back menu of just salads and pizzas for the next week or so. After that, an expanded menu, plus Sunday brunch, will debut.
