Jonathan Adams, chef/partner at Pub & Kitchen (1946 Lombard St.) and The Diving Horse (2109 Dune Drive, Avalon, N.J.), has teamed up with his longtime buddy, La Colombe vet Damien Pileggi, to roll out Rival Bros., a small-batch roastery that will vend proprietary blends and internationally sourced single-varietal coffees via both a web hub and a soon-to-launch coffee truck.

Adams and Pileggi, who grew up together in Buxco and worked together early in their careers at spots Davio's and Brasserie Perrier, are taking a cheffish approach to developing their product line, offering four standard blends — Whistle & Cuss (espresso), Revolver (a drip-friendly blend of Latin American, Indonesian and African beans), Featherweight (a light roast designed for single-cup brewing a la Chemex) and Palooka (a decaf blend). Rival's blends will aim to strike a balance between the bright, fruit-forward characteristics associated with contemporary West Coast coffee roasting with the more robust qualities we're familiar with on this side of the country.

In addition to handling the roasting themselves, Adams and Pileggi will personally staff the Rival Bros. truck, which should debut before the end of this month. Tricked out with a serious sound system, a pourover bar, La Marzocco espresso machine, Fetco extractor brewers and Mazzer grinders, it'll be a legit high-end café on wheels, vending at LOVE Park on weekdays beginning at 7 a.m.
