- Perhaps it's a jab at Molson Coors for that gross tea-flavored beer we posted about last month, but Anheuser-Busch has recently debuted something called a Lime-A-Rita. Danya Henninger of The Drink Nation fills us in on this new hybrid beverage: "...[T]he general opinion thus far has been positive. Beer enthusiasts are not convinced, however. Early reviews say the drink sips very sweet, with one user exhorting, 'Dumb. Drink a beer and grow chest hair.'" I agree with user.
- Since it's common knowledge that everyone loves sriracha, Lollyphile.com has created sriracha lollipops. You can purchase them from their site in a pack of four, 10 or 36. They're cheapest in bulk, so maybe these spicy guys should be party favors at your next soiree.
- As a companion to Jeff Gordinger's piece on chefs' amp-up music, the New York Times has posted playlists from several renowned chefs, including Philly's own Kevin Sbraga. Some of Kevin's favorite kitchen tunes? "Hard Times" by John Legend and The Roots, "I And Love And You" by The Avett Brothers and "P.Y.T." by Michael Jackson. I wouldn't mind hanging out in the kitchen while Bill Telepan's at work. What's on your favorite chef's playlist?
- James Victor, a "sandwich artist" from Conshohocken, has made a Subway smokehouse BBQ chicken bust of Heisman winner Robert Griffin III. The statue is made from "mostly a mix of bread and chicken, with some tomatoes, lettuce and onions in the shoulder pads. The braids were made of peppers." I hope Subway starts branching out into musical acts, because we already know Lionel Ritchie is a great bust subject.
- South Philly's Steak 'Em Up is being sued by Steak-umms for trademark infringement. Collin Keefe of Grub Street points out the differences between the two brands and declares that frozen Steak-umms might be "the world's grossest meat product." Does this mean we can finally stop talking about pink slime?
- Someone named "Dean Pickles" shares his recipe for Philadelphia cheesesteak ice cream on AsiaObscura.com. For those with weak stomachs, I advise skipping the pictures and scrolling right down to the bottom of the article with the recipe and Pickles describing the final product as "spectacular," "AMAZING" and "the greatest weird taste sensation of all time."
- PUBCATS.com is a whole website dedicated to pictures of cats in bars. You can check out the "cat map" to see where submitters have snapped their pics. Looks like Europe is pretty liberal with their cats in bars law. Oddly, no one has submitted a picture of the cats that live at El Bar. On it!
- Alright, this isn't exactly food-related, but this vid of Deb "Spoons" Perry playing The Black Keys' "Lonely Boy" on the spoons just makes me laugh. You know what, spoons are food-related! And those kangaroos are eating something that I assume to be generic kangaroo feed. Eating is food-related. Anyway, I thought you guys might have as much fun watching this as I did. I hope it makes you dance all weekend.
